Norsemen of the Lakes Lodge History
To form the Norsemen of the Lakes Lodge, a notice was placed in the local newspaper about organizing a Sons of Norway lodge in Walworth County. There were 13 people who attended the first meeting on Aug. 11, 1997 at the Community Bank in Delavan.
They listened to Jøstein Bakken, 5th District President, Agnes Grenawalt and Hjalmer (Jolly) Hanson from Janesville Lodge. They informed the attendees all about the S of N.
The second meeting was on Sept. 29th with 24 people in attendance plus the three leaders.
The third meeting was on Oct. 21 and brought in a few more members, bringing the total to 31. The trend continued for the fourth meeting Nov. 18 for a total of 48 members to close out the year. A total of 40 people were need-ed to form a lodge, so we were all set. On Dec. 7th, 1997 we met at the Monte Carlo Room in Elkhorn for our installation dinner with 61 members as officers chosen.

One of the things most remembered with affection in the early days were the fish boils that were put on as fund raisers. These events raised money for cultural activities and presentations to learn more about our Norsk heritage.
