Cultural Committee Challenge

Cultural Committee Challenge to D5 Members Leading up to the 2026 District 5 Convention, the District 5 Cultural Committee gives all District 5 members this challenge: Try some new Norwegian cultural skill that you’ve never done before. Complete any one Sons of Norway Cultural Skills project begun between May 1st 2025 and May 1st 2026 that you complete within this time frame. You would be eligible for a Cultural Skills pin from your local Sons of Norway lodge and after completing this challenge, this member would also be recognized by District 5 and receive a token of appreciation. Each member needs to send the Cultural Committee Chair, Lucy Ghastin, proof that all aspects of a particular cultural skill level were completed. There is no need to send the whole project. An officer of your lodge (usually the Cultural Director) would sign the paper, and the member would sign. All requirements and skill levels for each Cultural Skill can be found on the Sons of Norway website: https://www.sofn.com/

Updates from the D5 Cultural Committee Chair

Lucy Ghastin

I want to thank all District 5 lodges who are sending in their Cultural, Sports, and Membership Pins Shipping Grants. They are eventually getting forwarded to me. Last fall the new D5 board decided to put the application forms for Cultural, Sports and Membership Pins Shipping Grants and applications for Small Projects and Matching Funds Grants on the D5 Foundation page under D5 SN District 5 Nordic Legacy Foundation Grants.
I have requested that there be a link to this page under Programs/Cultural Arts to make it easier for District 5 lodges to find the current application forms. The District 5 Vice President no longer manages the pin shipping grants. All grants pertaining to Cultural pins/Small Projects and Matching Funds grants are mailed to the Cultural Committee Chair.
Any grant requests for the new NLF Printing Grant are listed under the D5 SN District 5 Nordic Legacy Foundation Grants tab.

In this week’s FFFNews the Cultural Committee’s Challenge for 2025-2026 is now listed. Our Committee challenges members to try a new Norwegian Cultural Skill they have never done before during the period of May 1 2025 to May 1 2026.
