Sons of Norway/Swiss Miss Barnebirkie

The Sons of Norway/Swiss Miss Barnebirkie will be held on Thursday, February 22, at 12:30 PM. Over 1000 children ages 3 to 13 will participate in the ski event. The event will be 1 K, 2.5 K, or 5 K in length and will start at the Hayward Golf and Tennis Club and finish on Hayward’s Main Street.

This year, as in the past, we need lodge’s help! Volunteers will be needed at the starting line, registration, awarding medals as the skiers cross the finish line, working the cookie tent, and whatever else is needed! If you or other lodge members can volunteer, please let me know by emailing or returning the form on the Hotels/Sign up 2007 letter. There is information about the Birkebeiner and Barnebirkie at Hotel and maps are also available on that website. There are also some hotels listed on the back of this mailing- reservations are limited so make your arrangements soon.

The Fifth District Sons of Norway Lodges will again be supplying cookies to satisfy appetites of the skiers and spectators alike. If your lodge can donate cookies, we would like you to put them in sturdy, non-returnable containers (shoeboxes, ice cream pails, coffee cans work well). Please have a sheet with the name of your lodge and the number of dozens of cookies you have. If you need a way to transport your cookies to Hayward, please contact your Zone Director or me, to arrange a pick-up. Monetary contributions should be sent to Ray Knutson, District Treasurer, and identified for Barnebirkie.

You can download an area lodging form in the "Forms and Downloads" section of the District 5 website.

 Thank you,
Darlene Arneson
